All the myodesopsies, far from being considered an eye disease, are rather a symptom associated with diseases of the retina or to macular damage.

When a person has floaters, it means that what are colloquially known as floaters have appeared in their campor visual suddenly. And although it sounds a bit strange, the visual effect it generates makes this expression totally correct.

En Área Oftalmológica Avanzada We explain what myodesopsias are and what are the causes that cause them.

Definition of myosopsies

myodesopsies

Flooding is the impression of bodies or flying flies in the campor visual. They appear suddenly and they move with inertia in each movement of the eyeball.

But what exactly are these foreign bodies?

Is opacities that are floating in the vitreous humor, the transparent substance that fills the eye, which cast their own shadow on the retina when light enters the eye. This shadow is what the patient perceives in the campor visual like flying flies.

Generally, myodesopsies are harmless, but they can also be the consequence of a more serious pathology such as retinal detachment

Causes of floaters

Myodesopsias are associated with the natural process of aging of the human being.

Since the vitreous humor is a gelatinous substance that does not regenerate over the years, it accumulates debris or agglutinations inside it, which we later observe in the campor visual like flying flies.

Another cause of myodesopsia is the separation of the vitreous and the retina. If it were to happen to us, it is important that we go immediately to the ophthalmologist to prevent a possible retinal detachment and avoid irreversible visual disturbances.

Myodesopsias can also cause uveitis, high myopia, cataract surgery, eye hemorrhages or trauma.

Symptom

The main symptom of myodesopsias is the appearance of flies in the eyes, more specifically in the campor sight. These flies usually move from one place to another depending on the activity and the effort made by the person with their eyes.

It should be noted that the floating bodies in the eye can have different shapes: clouds, points, circles, lines and flies.

Transmission

When floaters are a consequence of aging and are mild, it is recommended to learn to live with these floating bodies in the vision. In the event that the patient feels discomfort, they can be eliminated by laser vitreolysis (To be YAG).

However, when floaters are the consequence of a vitreous detachment or retina, you can evaluate the need to perform a vitrectomy. This surgery involves removing the vitreous and putting the retina back in its place.

Prevention of eye flies

Can flying flies be prevented? Regrettably, cannot be prevented the appearance of floaters in the eye. However, whenever floaters appear in the eye, flashes of light or we lose lateral vision, we must go to the ophthalmologist to diagnose our case and thus avoid putting our eye health at risk.

If you haven't had an ophthalmological check-up in a long time, make an appointment with one of our specialists at Área Oftalmológica Avanzada. We have the best doctors in all of Barcelona. We are happy to help you.
