Yellow area and redness in the sclera

Good,

An anomaly has arisen on the stairs and I would like to share it with you because it worries me a lot.

In the right eye, in the area closest to the nose, in the obituary I have had a reddening due to a medium-sized anomaly, yellowish and with a somewhat viscous appearance and even a little bulging. It makes me a little irritated, but what worries me the most is having that there, if I look to the right it shows a quite red and irritated area with the naked eye. I attach an image so you can see it clearly.

Kind regards, Sergio.

Dear Sergio,

From what you explain, it seems that it is a benign injury, what we know as pinguecula. They are accumulations of fat and inflammatory cells. They have a tendency to inflammation and that is why they can appear more reddish, depending on the day. It must be controlled by an ophthalmologist and if it becomes larger or affects the cornea, surgical removal is recommended.

I recommend a visit with an ophthalmologist and as always, if you can go to our Ophthalmology Center, we will be happy to help you.

Regards,
Dr Carlos Vergés
