Red eye when sleeping

Red eye when sleeping

I've had a gritty feeling in my eyes for a month, but this only happens when I sleep. In the morning, the right eye is extremely red and the sensation is uncomfortable and painful.

I have seen an ophthalmologist and they first sent me dexamethasone, but it didn't help. Then they said it was episcleritis and they sent me ketorolac drops, plus phenylephrine with tropicamide and, although it helped the pain, the irritation in the eyes was even greater.

They did an exam with the slit lamp and found nothing strange, they also told me that my eye pressure was at 18 which was within normal. However, there was a slight change in my graduation.

The sensation is very annoying and sometimes painful, sometimes it also causes me a headache ... I don't know what to do since this causes a lot of conflict with my work because I work with the computer for many hours and in this state the light bothers me .

Hello and thank you for sending us your question about ophthalmology.

In response to your query, the sensation of grit, preferably at night, could correspond to a sign of dry eyes. We recommend that you consult with a specialist in ocular surface and dry eye because of the history that you report, since, in some patients, it is necessary to go to a specialist with the specific technology in this disease for its correct diagnosis.

If you do not have a trusted dry eye specialist ophthalmologist, we have a specialist unit in this pathology equipped with both doctors and the necessary technology to address dry eye.

Greetings,
