Postoperative Chalazion - blepharitis

Postoperative Chalazion - blepharitis

Hello,

I have blepharitis and I had a chalazion in the eye two days ago (I already had one in the other eye years ago, which fortunately did not come out again). The ophthalmologist has told me to live a normal life (he has only given me an anti-inflammatory ointment for a week). I feel a little itchy and my eye a little dry, is this normal? Although it is true that these days it is hot and I do not know if this could cause a certain stinging. I would also like to know if, once a week has passed, it is possible to take a bath in the sea or there is a danger that the wound will become infected.

Finally, and by the time the eye was perfectly fine, I read that castor oil is good for blepharitis, is it true?

Thank you very much for your help

All the best

Hello, thank you for submitting your question to our ophthalmology forum.

Feeling some itching and discomfort is normal after Chalazion surgery. We recommend that to take a bath in the sea wait 2 weeks after the intervention. Similarly, tampoco it is advisable to go to the beach, since the effect of the wind can get sand into your eye and worsen the postoperative period.

Regarding blepharitis, we advise you to carry out daily hygiene with wipes type STYLE - OFTACLEAN or foams type BELCIS - NAVIBLEF (without any commercial interest).

In relation to castor oil, it is a natural remedy such as green tea oil, coconut oil, aloe vera, etc., which could help but being natural remedies it is difficult to scientifically prove their true effectiveness. I do not recommend them in my usual practice.
