Types and surgical techniques

We will divide the different types of presbyopia surgery into two groups:
- Presbyopia surgery with laser.
- Presbyopia surgery with intraocular lenses.
Laser surgery with presbyopia
Monovision
It consists of making a refractive surgery with the particularity that one eye, the dominant, the existing graduation is removed, to obtain a good vision from afarWhile in the other eye, the non-dominant, induces a Discreet myopia, so you can focus closely.
When the vision of each eye reaches the brain, simultaneously, you can see well from far and near. It consists of performing ablations with multifoco profiles that try to generate good vision from far, medium distance and near each eye. With these methods stereopsis is not lost.
Surgery of presbyopia with intraocular lenses
Multitfocal Phakic Lenses
They are epicapsular or iris fixation lenses, which are used to correct simple ametropias (myopia, farsightedness and astigmatism), and now incorporate mulitfocality to correct presbyopia.
They are called phakic lenses because are implanted keeping the lens, when there are still no falls.
These lenses are especially indicated in people between 40 and 50 years, in which the transparent lens surgery or phagorefractive, is considered too aggressive for this age
Pseudophakic Mulitfocal lenses
They are multifocal lenses that are implanted in the cataract surgery but in this case, is implanted in people over 50 years old who still don't have cataracts. It is what is known as clear lens or Phacorrefractive surgery.
This distinction is important because, although it is a surgery very similar to that of cataracts, the goal is totally refractive and therefore it is not covered by mutual companies, it is totally private and we usually do it bilaterally, both eyes at the same time.
Non-surgical options
Presbyopia can also be treated by non surgical options. Are made sensorineural stimulation exercises that allow to improve the accommodation and the sensitivity to the contrast.
