The headquarters of Plus Ultra Seguros, a building with history
The headquarters of Plus Ultra Seguros, located in the Plaza de las Cortes nº 8 in Madrid, was built in the 1913 year on behalf of the Marqués de Amboage to house a building dedicated to housing rental. The project was carried out by the architect Joaquín Roji López - Calvo, responsible for other emblematic buildings such as the Embassy of Italy, the church of Santa Bárbara or the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid.
The building occupies part of the site of the old palace of the Dukes of Medinaceli and, given its beauty, the property received in 1915 the prize of the City of Madrid to the best built house.
The 20 of December of 1993 was inaugurated the carillon of Plus Ultra Seguros, in an act presided by her royal highness the Infanta Doña Pilar de Borbón. It is the first and only one in Spain with moving parts and was built in the prestigious workshops of the Dutch company Royal Eijsbouts. The design of the five figures was entrusted to Antonio Mingote who, with a mixture of mastery and intuition, chose as characters King Carlos III, the painter Francisco de Goya, the Duchess of Alba, the right-hander Pedro Romero and the very Madrilenísima Manola.
The display of the character carousel can be viewed daily at 12: 00, 15: 00 and 20: 00 hours.
