La corneal surgery is focused on treating all those pathologies that directly or indirectly affect the cornea. Among the most common corneal interventions we find the cornea transplant, the segment implant for the keratoconus or the pterygium.

Cornea transplant

La surgery cornea transplant it has evolved to the keratoplasty laser assisted penetrant, in which graft cut and recipient window they are made entirely with femtosecond laser and, in cases where the cornea is only partially damaged, selective techniques that replace altered layers or lamellae, is what is known as Lamellar keratoplasty.

To perform this surgery there are 3 basic variants:

Currently there is a clear trend towards lamellar techniques and very especially in the penetrating keratoplasty laser-assisted, as it is safer and more effective (induces less residual astigmatism).

Ablative keratoplasty with laser

La laser-assisted ablative keratoplasty involves removing the anterior layers of the cornea.

Generally it is trauma scars, virus infectionsand Herpes or, degenerative or dystrophic processes, which only affect the most anterior damaged layers.

It is done by excimer laser which is used in refractive surgery. These techniques are also known as PTK (Photo Therapeutic Keratoplasty).

Amniotic membrane implants and stem cells

En cases of corneas with ulcers or degenerative disorders nerurotrophic type and that is required regenerate corneal tissue, these types of treatments are used.

At this moment we are working with tissue banks to obtain cell cultures and be able to carry out this type of intervention.

INTACS intracorneal implants

This cornea surgery consists of introducing small methacrylate segments inside the cornea. Until now it was done manually but with the Intralase it can be done much more accurately and safely. They are generally used for treat pathologies like Keratoconus, Other corneal ectasias or to correct deformations and high astigmatism of the cornea, such as those that can appear after a cornea transplant.

The fact of having the femtosecond laser (Intralase)It is a great advantage to improve the efficacy and safety of this type of surgery.

Pterygium with laser

At Lóleo Eventos, Pterygium surgery Laser assisted we incorporate thermal laser in Pterygium surgery, one of the more frequent corneal surgeries. He thermal laser Selectively coagulates the small blood vessels in the scleral bed that we are treating.

With this maneuver, better resultsit's less traumatic and reduce the incidence of recurrences, one of the main problems of this pathology.
